Giving
“Now about the collection for God’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.”
1 Corinthians 16:1-3.
Here Paul tells the Corinthian church to collect money from the congregation on the first day of each week, which was the day Christians worshipped.
Note he states,
“...each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income,...”
Paul does not set a percentage amount or a monetary amount. He simply states to set aside an amount in keeping with one’s income.
We should all be giving to the Lords work even if it’s only a small amount. I believe we should be giving to our own congregation first and doing our best to give as much as we can without putting ourselves in need.
The money collected then should go for the upkeep of the local church, the pastors salary and the local church should be giving a portion to help the poor both inside the church and outside as well as to missions.
Do you give a portion of your income to the Lords work?
Think about it.
