Heavenly and Earthly Wisdom

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.”
                                                                James 3:13-15

There are two kinds of wisdom open to us God’s and man’s.
Wisdom that come’s from God is orderly, exemplified by a good life and deeds, done in true humility.
Earthly wisdom is characterized by envy, selfish ambition. James saying it is “of the devil”.
James makes it clear the signs of God’s wisdom when he says,
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:17,18.
No matter who we are we need to ask God for his wisdom. We need to learn what it is to be wise in God’s eyes and to practice that wisdom before man.
The key I believe to God’s wisdom is love. Someone once said to me that, “Love, true love is the beginning of all wisdom.”
The apostle Paul writing to the Corinthians said of love, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
Jesus said of love, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40.
If we love as God want’s us to love we are in many aspects following God’s wisdom.
God in His wisdom looked down on mankind and his multitude of sins and instead of destroying the world showed love toward us,
Jesus noting in the gospel of John, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16,17
It is our job to follow that wisdom and Love the world as God loved the world. In order that we may show people the way of salvation the way to heaven.
