Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy." James 5:7-10
James is calling us to be patient to stand firm in what we believe no matter what circumstance we find ourselves in. We are not to grumble against each other but rather lift each other up. We are not to judge each other, something Jesus tells us in Matthew seven.
James warns us that the Judge, the true Judge who knows the heart of all men is standing at the door ready to enter in.
He tells us the prophets of the Lord suffered for what they believed. Job is an extreme example of suffering for the Lord. Yet he persevered.
James the other apostles and the early church all considered those who have persevered to be a blessed.
He reminds us that ultimately the Lord is full of compassion and mercy towards us, and by us, he means believers
