Sin will be Judged
The apostle Paul writes to the Corinthians.
“For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.
They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert.
Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.
Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry.”
We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.
We should not test the Lord, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.
And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:1-13.
Here the apostle Paul makes an analogy between the Corinthian church and those who were with Moses during the Exodus from Egypt.
In the case of those with Moses they had all seen what God could do. They had all witnessed the power of God and sat under the teachings of Moses yet many still sinned.
In the case of the Corinthians they had all received the same teaching from Paul and others. They like those with Moses knew what God expected of them yet some of them sinned.
It is the same today. All Christians read the same Bible. We all if we truly study the scriptures know what God requires of us. Yet we all sin.
We are human we all sin. The key is however to repent of our sin as soon as we realize we have done so.
The apostle John tells us,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.” 1John 1:9-10
Sadly there are many who sin and like many with Moses do not stop sinning they continue in their sin.
The apostle Paul writing to Timothy states,
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” 2 Timothy 3:1-4
Sin is sin and while we can try to justify it what ever way we wish it is still sin before God and God will judge us accordingly.
Paul also issues a warning to Christians. He states,
“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
Don’t be so self confident that you are doing what is right because everyone is subject to temptation in this life. The temptations we are subjected to especially in this day and age are subtle and come upon us slowly almost unnoticeably.
So the word is be careful. Pray continually and ask God to guide you and keep you from falling. At the same time remember the words of the apostle Paul who said,
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13.
In short we as Christians all read the same Bible. We all know what God requires of us. We will all from time to time sin and must repent of the sin and confess that sin to God.
If we continue sinning God will judge us accordingly.
