Fix our Eyes

Fix our eyes
The writer of Hebrews states,
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross,
scorning its shame,
and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”
                                                                          Hebrews 12:2
The writer here is calling on Christians to fix their eyes on Jesus, “the author and perfecter of our faith”.
As Christians we should not be looking to follow the teachings of any man, doing so can cause division. This happened in the Corinthian church. 1 Corinthians chapter one tells that there were quarrels with in the church some saying they followed Paul, others saying they followed Apollos, still others Cephas (1Corinthians 1:1-17).
Paul noted that it was not him who was crucified for their sins nor were any of the others. It was Christ. And it is Christ we must keep our eyes on.
Over the years I’ve seen many Christian leaders fall from grace. Men and women both in the media and out that have sinned and been unrepentant.
I’ve seen those who follow such men turn away from God because of their actions. That is why it is so important to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. We should not be saying I believe this because such, and such a preacher said it.
We should be looking to the scriptures and saying I believe what Jesus and the apostles taught us.
We as Christians need to be studying the Bible for ourselves as well as getting into a good Church that encourages us to follow the teachings of Christ and the apostles. One who encourages us to read the Bible.
It is only in seeing for ourselves what the bible says that we can truly stay on the strait and narrow road that leads us to heaven.
The apostle Paul writing to Timothy said,
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
This is what we as individual Christians need to be doing. Studying scriptures and handling it correctly that we may not be ashamed for our actions on the day we stand before Christ.
Please think about it.
