Be Careful
Jesus told his disciples
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16.
We as Christians in the twenty-first century need to heed what Jesus said.
Jesus said be shrewd as snakes. A snake is cautious when it acts. It surveys the area around it before it makes a move.
A dove is one of the most innocent of animals. It poses no harm to anyone. It is the symbol of peace.
If we as Christians are to heed the advice of Jesus. We must be careful in how we conduct our life for Christ.
We must remember what Paul wrote to the Galatians,
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22,23.
As true Christians we must exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. People must see those traits in us.
The apostle Peter reminds us,
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Dear friends,
I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:9-12.
If you claim to be a Christian take time right now to pray and take stock of your life and lifestyle. Do you exhibit the fruits of the spirit? Do you abstain from sinful desires.
When you present the gospel of Christ do you do it in a non-threatening way? Do you do it in such a way as to open dialogue between you and the person you are speaking to?
