Images of a Woman

 Images of a Woman

Some time ago I read the story of a rather unique individual and I wondered would this person be welcome in our church. Thus I wrote the following.

That morning, Margaret Elizabeth got up exceptionally early, readying herself for the day.  She would get only one chance to make an impression.  To that end, she applied her makeup with extra care.  Chose the black mid calf skirt, white blouse and black jacket, her children had given her as a gift, while in hospital.  She limited her jewellery to a simple pair of diamond studied earrings, that had been her grandmother’s and small bracelet given to her by her daughter-in-law.

That done she left to meet with her pastor at their modest size church a ten minute drive away.

Once in the church office the pastors wife handed her a small gold cross necklace.

Margaret put it on and looked out the window.

From the window she could see the parking lot and the people entering the church. Wondering as she seen each person enter what they would think.

She’d known many of these people for several years. Some were close friends. But what she’d gone through in the last year had changed things somewhat, and now as she watched them enter she could only hope they would accept her.

Leaving that office, to walk to the pulpit was the hardest step, she ever had to make.  Her heart pounded and by the time, she stood behind the pulpit she was visibly shaking.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Margaret Elizabeth Williamson and just before Christmas, I underwent Sexual Reassignment Surgery.” she said relief surging through her body, as silence engulfed the assembly.  I know that many of you, maybe uncomfortable with that.    That is why I have asked to speak to you, to give you my testimony and then allow you to ask questions.

I have felt like a woman trapped in a man’s body for my entire life.  I was married for over twenty-five years to a wonderful and accepting woman, who died several years prior to my coming to this assembly.  I have a wonderful family, all of whom support me and are here today.

Believe me, I did not choose this course of action lightly.  I did so after much personal anguish and a great deal of prayer.

For a little over two years prior to my complete transition, I have lived my life as a woman: I was doing so when I came to this church and I think I did it well enough that no one knew.  If they did no one commented.

I have no apologies to give for what I did, or for who I am, because I do not believe I did anything wrong.

I accepted Jesus as my Saviour over thirty years ago, and asked Him to remove from me what at times, has been a difficult burden.  He has chosen not to and thus, I have accepted that I am what I am.  A child of God, who knew me according to the Psalms in my mother’s womb.

I have no intentions of preaching a sermon here today, only to ask you to accept me as I am.  In fact, the only reason I stand before you today, is because I was asked to come onto the staff of this church and wish to be completely honest with you.

Now, I will open the door to all questions and endeavour to answer them to the best of my ability.  After which, I will ask for a vote and abide by your decision.”

Some people voted with their feet and left. Others remained asking many questions. All of which Margaret  answered. Then the questions ended, the pastor came to the front.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now time to take a vote.”  He said.  “If you wish Margaret Elizabeth to become a part of our pastoral staff, please rise to your feet.”

The clowns sermon

 The Clown’s Sermon

The pastor with a sigh arose and took the pulpit to addressed the assembled congregation.
“Today.” he said “today we have something special just for you.”
As he spoke the words soft and true.
A clown moved to take the stage.
He stumbled, tumbled, fumbled and bumbled.
Sallied and quipped and cracked a pun.
They snickered and giggled and laughed out loud.
He was truly amusing the crowd...
Then he stopped!
His buffoonery over he took the stand.
Standing strait and tall....
The clown, became serious before all...
“For a moment their you laughed and giggled and snickered at me.’
Said he,
“You seemed to like my buffoonery....
After all I’m a jester, a buffoon,
A joker, a comic, a wit, a wag.
A purveyor of nonsense and senseless stuff.
Which for me is not that tough.
But here’s a thought from and Apostle Paul,
Words to you all,
1Corinthians 1:20-31 says,
“Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar?
Where is the philosopher of this age?
Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom
 did not know him,
God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached
to save those who believe.
Jews demand miraculous signs
and Greeks look for wisdom,
 but we preach Christ crucified:
a stumbling block to Jews
and foolishness to Gentiles,
but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom,
and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
Brothers, think of what you were when you were called.
 Not many of you were wise by human standards;
not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--
and the things that are not--
to nullify the things that are,
so that no one may boast before him.
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus,
who has become for us wisdom from God--
that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Therefore, as it is written:
"Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
The quote complete he looked about, and softly said,
“I’m a Jester, a Buffoon...
A Pierrot!
But I’m also a believer,
A follower of “The Way”.
A follower of Gods foolishness,
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom,
and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength
A preacher of Christ crucified, descended, resurrected...
And ascended.
“a stumbling block to Jews
and foolishness to Gentiles,
And if this clown may be so bold.
I offer to you what is from old.
Salvation that cannot be bought or sold.
For it is by grace we are saved Paul tells us.
Not of works.
It is God’s free gift to you...
To me.
So will you join this Jester this buffoon
this clown...
And here at the alter...
Lay your burdens down.
Commit your life to the one who wears the victors crown.
And give praise to God on high.
Give praise to Adonai!
Please think about it.

Allowed

 Allowed

The Apostle Paul writes,

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?  God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." 1 Corinthians 5:12,13.

Christians are not allowed to judge those outside the church but we are allowed to judge those within the church.

I firmly believe this is to ensure that the gospel message in not in anyway perverted. Christians should not compromise their faith.

Sadly however there are high profile men and women in the media that are misusing the gospel of Christ. Most often for material gain.

Unfortunately for various reasons those who are presenting the true gospel are not standing up to them. Thus allowing them to lead people astray.

We as true believers in Christ Jesus have an obligation to follow the teachings of Christ and the apostles and stand up to those who would misrepresent those teachings.

Now don’t get me wrong there will always be disagreements over minor things. It’s the big things we need to worry about. The basics. Jesus being God incarnate, The Saviour of mankind, God being omnipotent, all powerful, Jesus being the only way to heaven, to name a few.

We are to stand up to those who would make Jesus a “cosmic banker” promising wealth and health among other things.

In order to do this however we must know the scriptures. Thus we must be studying them. We should be sitting down with other believers and good bible teachers. We should be attending a solid bible believing church that puts their trust in the Lord.

And above all we should be praying asking God to show us what is right. Asking God to direct us.

Why not take time right now to take stock of the church you are in and the Bible teachers you are listening to. Are they truly teaching the word of God.

Please think about it.

Intimate Knowledge

  Intimate knowledge

The Psalmist writes,

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16.

These words from the Psalmist says it all. God has intimate knowledge down to our very DNA. He knows why we are the way we are. That is why God and God alone is the only one who can judge us.

As believers in Christ Jesus we are not allowed to judge others. Jesus said,

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." Luke 6:37.

Sadly too many who claim to be Christians are in the judgement business. They see others of different faiths and lifestyle and immediately condemn them. This should not be so.

The American evangelist Tony Campolo rightly said,

"We ought to get out of the judging business. We should leave it up to God to determine who belongs in one arena or another when it comes to eternity. What we are obligated to do is to tell people about Jesus, and that's what I do." Tony Campolo.

You will never win a soul for Christ if you judge them or others. It is our duty as believers in Christ Jesus to love as Jesus did, unconditionally. Only then can we even think of winning souls for Christ.

Please think about it.

In no one else

  In no one else

The apostle Peter speaking about Jesus said,

"He is " ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.'

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:11,12.

This is a bold statement one all true Christians. All true believers in Christ Jesus believe.

The statement makes it clear that the apostle Peter truly believed that the only way to be saved is though belief in Christ Jesus.

Do you believe this?

Please think about it.

A Sermon that needs to be heard

A sermon that needs to be heard

For me one of the greatest sermons of all time was never spoken in a church building. It was spoken in the Areopagus by the apostle Paul. It is a sermon everyone needs to hear.

The book of acts records,

“Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.

For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.

And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

‘For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.'

"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man's design and skill.

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.  For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject."

At that, Paul left the Council.

A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others” Acts 17:22-34.

The question I would ask anyone reading this is which group are you a part of. Those who sneered. Those who wanted to hear more, or those who believed what Paul said.

Please think about it.

Proclaim His Salvation

  Proclaim His Salvation

The Psalmist writes,

“Sing to the LORD a new song;

sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Sing to the LORD, praise his name;

proclaim his salvation day after day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvellous deeds among all peoples.”

                                                      Psalm 96:1-3.

I firmly believe that this is what all Christians are called to do. We are as often as we are able to tell others about the Salvation that come from God through Christ Jesus.

This is one of the reasons I write these blogs to reach out with Gods message of Salvation.

The book of Acts tells this interaction between the apostle Paul and his jailor. It states,

The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.

He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." Acts 16:30,31.

That Message is the same today as it was then. “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved”.

In order to be saved and get to heaven, Christians, believers in Christ Jesus, believe you must believe in The Lord Jesus Christ.

The way I see it if this statement is false you have nothing to fear. On the other hand if this statement is true you at the very least have a lot to think about.

Please think about it.

A Bold Statement

  A bold Statement

Marks Gospel records this interaction between Jesus and His disciples.

"Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"

They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"

Peter answered, "You are the Christ.'" Mark 8:27-29.

In his book Mere Christianity C. S. Lewis writes,

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God Incarnate. The Saviour of anyone who would put their trust in Him.

The question is do you?

Please think about it.

God and Salvation

 God and Salvation

The apostle Paul writing to the Romans wrote,

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.  Romans 3:23,24

I think if you asked the average person if they are a good person? They would say they are.

I think if you asked those same people do you sin? They would say at the very least “no more than the next person.”

Just what is sin? I found this some time ago on the internet it defines sin as,

"Sin is anything that contrary to the will of God or doesn't express the holy character of God, in word, in deed and in thought."

Sin, then, is to transgress those boundaries God has set for us or to miss the target He set for us.”

By this definition I believe we all sin and sin separates us from God. For centuries mankind has tried to make atonement for their sins, usually by sacrifices of some kind.

When it comes to Christianity. Christians believe we have sinned. The apostle Paul wrote,

“All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.” Romans 3:23.

That being said. Writing to Titus Paul wrote,

"But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit" Titus 3:4,5.

Christians believe God through Christ Jesus reached down to mankind and indeed every individual offering Salvation.

The apostle Paul explaining,

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation" Romans 5:6-11.

As C.S. Lewis put it,

"The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us."  C.S. Lewis.

Do you love God? Do you believe Jesus died for your sins in order to reconcile you to God?

Please think about it.

It's your choice

  It’s your choice

The Psalmist writes,

"The fool says in his heart,

"There is no God."

                                          Psalm 14:1.

C.S. Lewis makes this observation,

“Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when two atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product the sensation I call thought.

But if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It's like setting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheist or anything else.

Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God" C. S. Lewis The case for Christianity.

Scientist have discovered that we are in what they call the Goldilocks zone, which NASA defines as,

The habitable zone is the area around a star where it is not too hot and not too cold for liquid water to exist on the surface of surrounding planets.”.

I have also heard it said that Goldilocks zone is not only the habitable area around a star but also a position in the Galaxy as well.

Either way you look at it we live in the perfect place in the universe. A place that makes life as we know it possible.

To my way of thinking this is not by chance. It is by design.

Intelligent design means the universe and every atom in it has its place. It means that every human being on the planet is made basically the same way. That we are made in such a way as we can communicate and interact with each other.

It means the chemicals and everything else in our brains and our body do not act in a random order. Something that could happen if we were not the product of intelligent design.

The way I see it you can’t simply look at the world around us and say there is no God. Simply because everything in the universe exists so that we can exist.

Physicist Dr. Paul Davies who moved from promoting atheism to promoting intelligent design states,

"The Laws of Physics... Seem themselves to be the product of exceedingly ingenious design"

"[There] is for me powerful evidence that there is something going on behind it all... it seems as though somebody has fine-tuned nature's numbers to make the Universe... The impression of design is overwhelming" Physicist Dr. Paul Davies.

Ultimately however the existence of God comes down to the individual.

Do you dear reader believe there is a God who designed the Universe and everything in it?

Please think about it.

The Cornerstone Belief

  The Cornerstone belief

In the book of Acts we see the apostle Peter referring to Jesus, quoted as saying,

“He is " ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.'

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:11,12.

The apostle John records Jesus as saying,

“Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6.

The book of Acts tells of this incident between apostle Paul and his Jailor said,

"The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.

He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." Acts 16:30,31.

This is what true Christians. What true believers in Christ Jesus believe. This is the message We who believe in Christ Jesus want the world to hear. So that anyone hearing these words can decide for themselves if they believe them or not.

Do you believe them?

Please think about it.

Presenting the Gospel Message

   Presenting the Gospel Message

The apostle Paul wrote,

"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you,

live at peace with everyone."

                                                           Romans 12:18.

If you call yourself a Christians. A true believer in Christ Jesus do you live in peace with those around you?

I believe there is a very good reason to live in peace with those around us. It’s easier to present the gospel message.

If we are constantly finding fault with those around us. If we are constantly criticizing the government for the laws they pass that don’t infringe on our rights as believers, we will not win souls for Christ.

Living in peace particularly in a free democracy allows us to sit down with and present our beliefs with those who don’t hold the same beliefs. This in turn can and often does win souls for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The apostle gave us one such example when he was in Athens. Acts 17:17-34 records how Paul presented the gospel. He didn’t say anything negative about his audiences beliefs, or about the temple to the numerous gods. Instead he picked up on the fact the Athenians had a temple to an unknown god. Then using this starting point he presented the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

The result some sneered, some believed, and importantly some wanted to here more.

This is how we should be. We should live in peace with those around us and use any opportunity God brings our way to present the Gospel of Christ.

Are you doing this?

Please think about it.

Loving with Actions

  Loving with actions

The apostle John writes,

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1John 3:17,18.

What do your actions say about you love for God and others?

Do you do what you can to help those in need around you even if it’s only giving to a food bank or charity that helps the poor?

What is your perception of the poor? Do you judge a person living on the streets negatively?

If you consider yourself a true Christian. A true follower of Christ Jesus, you shouldn’t.

What the apostle John is saying here to Christians is simple. We are to help the needy however and when ever we can to the extent we can.

Please think about it.

Good works and Charity

  Good works and Charity

In the book of acts we read,

“Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity.” Acts 9:36.

In Judaism there is a term called, “Tzedakah”

The simplest definition I can find is this,

“The word "tzedakah" is derived form the Hebrew root Tzadei-dalet-Qof, meaning righteousness, justice or fairness.

In Judaism giving to the poor is not viewed as a generous, magnanimous act, it is simply and act of righteousness, performance of a duty giving the poor their due....

Giving to the poor is an obligation in Judaism, a duty that cannot be forsaken even by those who are themselves in need. Some sages have said that tzedakah is the highest of all commandments, equal to all of them combined, and that a person who does not perform tzedakah is equivalent to an idol worshipper...

According to Jewish law, we are required to give one-tenth of our income to the poor. Although those in need do not necessarily need to give this much. And one should never give so much as to make one in need of financial help.”

I think Tabitha mentioned in the book of acts was a Tzaddik. Someone who openly helps the poor.

In the book of James we read,

"In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do."  James 2:17,18.

I think what James, a Jew, is describing here is a Tzaddik. One who is full of good works and charity. Something all who believe in Christ Jesus should be practising.

Question; If you consider yourself a true Christian, a true follower of Christ Jesus are you full of good works and charity?

Please think about it.

Pray Continually

  Pray Continually

One of the apostle Pauls closing remarks to the Thessalonians was,

“...pray continually;”

                                  1Thessalonians 5:17.

Do you pray continually? By this I don’t mean do you stand in public and pray with many words.

Prayer as I noted in my previous blog ,Jesus said should be done in private (Matthew 6:6-8). If possible. But we should as the occasion arrises be at least whispering a prayer as we walk down the street on when driving, even in church.

Question; have you ever whispered a prayer asking God to direct your pastor and the church service you’re about to enter into?

That being said when the chance arrises you should also be involved in payer meetings at church or in house fellowships. This is what the early church did. Luke noting in the book of Acts,

“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”Acts 2:42

The early church met as often as they could to be taught by the apostles, to partake of communion, even a fellowship meal, and to prayer.

If you claim to be a true follower of Christ Jesus are you doing this?

Please think about it.

When you Pray

  When you pray

Jesus said,

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Matthew 6:6-8.

How do you pray. With many words or few? What I believe Jesus is saying here is simple. Don’t be showy with your prayers. Go to a place where you can pray in secret and present your petitions to God. Then leave them there and trust God to answer them.

Please think about it.

Without regret

  Without regret

In the book of Joshua we read,

"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.

But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24: 14,15.

Who do you serve? There are many people calling themselves Christians today who are not serving God. They are serving the Gods of this world. Materialism and money being chief among them.

Now there’s nothing wrong with having a lot of money and possessions. It’s the emphasis you put on them that can make them gods.

Matthews gospel tells of a rich young man who came to Jesus. Matthew records,

"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

"Which ones?" the man inquired. Jesus replied, " ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,  honor your father and mother,' and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.''"

"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth." Matthew 19:16-22.

I think every one who claims to be a Christian. A follower of Christ Jesus needs to ask the question; “could I give everything I own away and still follow Jesus with no regrets?”

Could you?

Please think about it.

There is a way

  There is a way

In the book of Proverbs we read,

"Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honour you.

She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendour."

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her." Proverbs 4:5-11.

When I look at the world around me here in North America be it at political leaders, religious leaders or the average person on the street. It seems to me that wisdom is lacking.

It seems particularly politicians and religious leaders lack wisdom and understanding. Everything they do it seems is a knee jerk reaction to things going on around them.

These leaders don’t it seems take time to evaluate to consequences of their actions and sadly the average person is following their example and doing the same thing. The result I feel is our society is running toward the abyss that is filled with fire and brimstone.

In Proverbs we read this warning,

“There is a way that seems right ot a man

but in the end it leads to death.”

                                                            Proverbs 14:12.

Running for The Crown

  Running for The Crown

The writer of Proverbs states,

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."Proverbs 3:5,6.

We may not know what life has in store for us. We may go through many trials, tribulations and temptations but through it all we must trust God.

The apostle Paul equates our life in Christ as running a race. He states,

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

"Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."  1Corinthians 9:24,25.

Are you racing for the crown of life Jesus offers?

Please think about it.

So you truly have faith in God?

Do you truly have faith in God?

 The Psalmist writes,

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23.

Is the Lord truly the shepherd of your life or, do you only give intellectual consent to his existence?

Many people say they believe in God but they do not truly trust in Him? Do they truly have faith in Him?

I had one pastor that came from the so called bible belt states, in the United States, that note that it was hard in some areas to tell if people truly had faith in God. Whether a person had truly given their life to Christ.

It was hard because going to church was part of the culture. People simply went to church on a Sunday and said they were Christian because it was the thing to do. These people knew what he called “church speak”. They knew what to say, how to say it, when to say it and how they were expected to act.

I see it with politicians in the United States in particular. They say “God bless America” they even go to church while in office. Presidents and politicians attend Prayer breakfasts and other religious things yet are they truly saved?

I have a feeling there are many people who go to church, perhaps even the majority in some areas of the world, that say they believe in God. That say they believe in Jesus, that are not going to heaven because  they have not truly made Jesus the Lord of their life.

Following God is truly an act of faith, and while many may think they have faith in God. What they really have is the intellectually belief that God exists. Which is far different from faith.

Thus the question becomes do you truly have faith in God and do you truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God Saviour of all put their trust in Him.

Please think about it.

There is a Lord God Almighty

There is a Lord God Almighty

The Psalmist writes,

"The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard."

                                                                                       Psalm 19:1-3.

I have heard it said we live in the “goldilocks zone” in the universe. The one place where life as we know it can exist.

Even Stephen Hawing arguably one of the greatest scientific minds of the twentieth century noted,

“The universe and the laws of physics seem to have been specifically designed for us" Stephen Hawking.

Louis Pasteur said,

“A bit of science distances one from God, but much science nears one to Him... The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed by the work of the Creator" Louis Pasteur.

There are many notable scientist that believe in God,

William Philips Nobel prize winner in Physics stated,

“I believe in God more because of science than in spite of it" William Philips

Werner Heisenberg, father of Quantum Mechanics, a Nobel prize winner in Physics stated,

“The first gulp from the glass of natural science will make you an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you" Werner Heisenberg.

I believe there is a Lord God Almighty. Creator of the universe. I also believe that science done correctly will prove that.

Please think about it.

Anyway you can

 Anyway you can

The Psalmist writes,

“Praise the LORD.

Praise God in his sanctuary;

praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power;

praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,

praise him with the harp and lyre,

praise him with tambourine and dancing,

praise him with the strings and flute,

praise him with the clash of cymbals,

praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.

Praise the LORD.”

                                       Psalm 150.

Why not take a few minutes now and praise The LORD anyway you can?

Please think about it.

God has your back

 God has your back

The Psalmist writes,

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:7-10.

Someone once said no matter where we go “God has our back”. The above quote from Psalm 139 certainly backs that statement up.

For me personally through the years God has shown this to be true. In my darkest hours and in times of my greatest happiness I have always known God is with me.

If you haven’t already done so. Why not take some time right now to ask God to come into your life and guide you?

Please think about it.

To be Praised

  To be praised

The Psalmist writes,

"From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised." Psalm 113:3.

Some one once told me the intent of this verse from Psalm 113 is simple. God is to be praised everywhere.

I firmly believe this is true. Today around the world there are billions of Christians who are praising The Lord God Almighty. It may be quietly in a secret house church. In a country where Christians are persecuted. It may be in a prison cell. OR it may be in churches on the streets and in the media of the free nations of the world.

No matter where Christians are. They will find a way to praise the Lord today and every day.

If you are a Christian that lives in the free democracies of the world don’t just praise God. Take time to ask God to protect and give wisdom to those around the world who are persecuted for being Christians and must worship and praise Him in secret.

Please don’t just think about it. Do it!

Can you say this?

  Can you say this?

The Psalmist writes

"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word."

                                                                                         Psalm 119:9-16

if you consider yourself a Christian. A true believer in Christ Jesus, take sometime to read the above quote from Psalm 119. Then ask yourself am I honestly living out what this is saying?

Please think about it.

With my whole heart

 With my whole heart"

The Psalmist writes,

“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;

I will tell of all your wonders.

I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing praise to your name,”

O Most High.

                                   Psalm 9:1,2.

From looking around various media posts. I sometimes think that all non-Christians when it comes to Christians is negative things.

There is a lot of things that Christians seem to be pointing to that they see is wrong. And by Christian standards there is a lot of sin in the world.

That being said it is not up to a Christian to judge the world. That is Gods job. Christians are to present the Love of God and the Salvation message to the world.

One way we can do this is to praise God publicly. Telling the world about the wonders of God.

Please think about it.

Guide me

  Guide me

The Psalmist writes,

"Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25:4,5.

This to me is my prayer. As a believer in Christ Jesus, a believer in God, I want to know His ways. I want to know Gods truths. I want to follow God to the best of my ability.

This I believe should be what all believers in Christ Jesus wants.

As believers our hope should be in God our Saviour not only all day long but every day we live on this earth.

Question; Is your trust truly in God? Do you ask God to show you His ways and guide your paths?

Please think about it.

Look to The Lord

  Look to The Lord

In the book of 1Chronicels we read,

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”

                                                                            1 Chronicles 16:11

Billy Graham the late American evangelist wrote,

“The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, 'O God, forgive me,' or 'Help me.'” Billy Graham

As Christians. As believers in Christ Jesus, we need to look to The Lord not just daily but sometimes hourly or even minute by minute.

The Psalmist writes,

"I love you, O LORD, my strength.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

He is my shield and the horn of my salvation,

my stronghold."

                               Psalm 18:1,2.

We may not understand what is happening to us or why it is happening, but we have a God to whom we can cling to. A God whom we can look to, to get us through any trial that may come our way.

But only if we truly trust Him completely.

Please think about it.

Showing Pity

  Showing pity

The apostle John writes,

"This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another....

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1John 3:11,17,18.

If you consider yourself a believer in Christ Jesus and have what you need for a comfortable life. Do you show pity on those who do not?

In the book of Proverbs we have this warning,

"Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor

will himself call out and not be answered."

                                                                       Proverbs 21:13.

So when you see someone on the street in need. OR know of someone who has a roof over their head but lacks the finances to get enough food, do you do what you can to help them?

Please think about it.

Presenting the Gospel message

Presenting the Gospel Message

For me the greatest sermon ever spoken was by the Apostle Paul in Athens. Where he was invited by Epicureans and Stoic Philosophers, NOT other believer or other Jews. To present what he believed at the Areopagus.

This incident in Pauls life shows first of all how believers in Christ Jesus should present the gospel. In a non-threatening, non-judgmental way. If Paul had been doing it any other way he would most likely not have been invited.

Instead he met the those seated in the Areopagus where they were at and presented the gospel message.

The book of Acts records,

"So he (Paul) reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.

A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?

You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean."

(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)

Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens!

Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others

Acts 17:17-34

Note her that some “sneered” not believing is raising from the dead. Some wanted to hear more. And some became believers.

Is this what happens when you present the gospel message to those around you?

Please think about it.
