“But the Pharisees and teachers of the law muttered.
‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.’”
Luke 15:2
Think about these questions. In a few lines I’ll give you the answers.
1. Do you seek out sinners?
2. Do you go to the lost?
3. Where do you spend the majority of your time?
I was told one time that the majority of church growth comes from transfers. People moving from one church to another for whatever reason. This is not church growth.
If all we as Christians are doing is shuffling the deck then we are doomed to obscurity very quickly.
If all we are doing as individuals within the church is moving from one congregation to another because we think the teaching is better, or because our friends are there, or it’s more convenient. We are not helping the church grow.
Christianity is based on evangelism on reaching out to the sinner. To those who may not even realize they need God, or if they do, have no idea of how to reach Him.
In Luke 15 we see the Pharisees and teachers concerned that Jesus seems to spend more time with the lower end of society than with those who follow Gods laws.
They failed to understand that this is God’s way. To paraphrase Jesus those who ain’t sick don’t need a doctor. It’s been this way since the beginning.
Abram was called by God to step out in faith and through him the world would be blessed.
John tells us that God loved the world so much He sent His son. We didn’t have to call out for Christ to come. God sent him.
God reached out to a lost and dying world. To you and me with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
God set the example for us.
Ok the answer to the three questions at the beginning of this page.
Do you seek out sinners?
Do you go to the lost?
Where do you spend the majority of your time?
The answer to the first two questions only you can answer. Only you know if you seek out the sinner or go to the lost.
The third question is however simple to answer. Unless you are a minister, pastor or priest or work long hours for a Christian organization, you probably spend the majority of your time in the secular world with the unsaved.
As a result you have a fantastic opportunity to tell people about Christ in both word and deed. All you have to be is willing.
Are you?
